I'm a big show off

I decided to play instead of work this evening, after trying to work on projects for Technologies in Heritage Preservation all day to no avail. And this is the adorable result of my night! FELT FOOD Christmas gifts for the kids!

A fried egg (shown in a mini-frying pan from Ikea's toy section), and le tour de force, a chocolate cupcake with frosting and glittery seed bead sprinkles!

I know I just posted my thoughts on Infinite Jest,,,

I couldn't decide if that should be followed by "but" or "so".

I know I just posted my thoughts on Infinite Jest, BUT I did a lot more reading and I have some thoughts and questions.

1) I felt funny about the chronology; years are labelled in a strange way (for example, The Year of the Trial Sized Dove Bar) and I wasn't sure WHEN things were happening. It was getting disorienting. I decided to trust Wallace as I had been instructed to, and when I got to endnote #24 it had worked itself out. Because Endnote #24 sort of lays out the (INSANELY LONG) chronology of James Incandenza's film-making history and uses the weird year labels.

2) Endnote #39, part a is freaking hilarious. Ha! "Les Assassins des Fauteuils Rollents, a.k.a. Wheelchair Assassins, pretty much Quebec's most dreaded [...] terrorist cell".

3) The similarities between IJ and The Royal Tenenbaums seems to be coincidental.

I will tell you about other things, too.

1) I'm still mostly eating crazy-healthy. I have re-introduced more variety, but still being pretty restrictive for the sake of getting fit and I think (fingers crossed) I'm making some progress. For fuck's sake, I hope I'm making progress.

2) One of the two hens got out when Conner was putting fresh water inside the coop the other day (or so I hear) and Sugar chased the poor thing for hours. It hid under Harry's house for the night and hasn't laid an egg since the ordeal.

3) Sewing a LOT. A lot of diaper covers. Hey- need any diaper covers??

Can someone tell me it's time?

I need to sit down and be productive.

(Wow, remember when I made, like, 200 cloth diapers in that month when Tom and I were breaking up. Stayed up all night sewing, for days on end. Amy had very good timing to give birth to Avery around that time...)

when the kids go to sleep = Husqvarna time

Pazieme

and couturie ...

Two made-up words I really can't get out of my head right now.

Pazieme is my alteration of the middle baby-name we had. Tom liked Paz (translates to Peace). I like French names (maybe because I'm 1/4 francaise?), and I added the ending to make me smile.

I'm keeping the name. Besides his (newer, better) other-half is pushing forty and they probably won't be reproducing anyways. BTW I'm feeling better about the nonsense w/ the ex. After Harry revealed to me that the new gf is a woman who he cheated on his ex with about 20 years ago (reminding me that she's WAAAAAAY older than me) I decided that she's got nuthin on me. Besides, her 'boyfriend' is a royal tramp.

I've always known couture is French for sewing/seam, and couturier, a dressmaker. But drop the final 'r' and you get a word that is a little closer to what I'm up to today.

My silky pink paisley fabric is quite nearly a completed dress. Just some more detailing to do. I'll post pic's if I get it done before I have to leave to par-tay.

:-|

Can I just say I am REALLY TIRED.
The last few days/nights have been wild and fun and unnexpected. And sure, there are some lows, but also some nice high points.

It's a trade off

I skipped my Monday afternoon Salsa/Hip Hop class.

It was a trade off, but you know what, well worth it. It's really nice to entertain at home (do I sound like I've been reading the society pages of Vouge or what?), especially on such a hot day, and even more so when the guest is good looking, funny, and artistically minded.

Ok, enough. But, you know what? It's nice to spend time talking with someone different, and to discover at the end of the afternoon, that there were a hundred things left to discuss. Fun!

So, that was Monday. Tomorrow is Tuesday, when Ben (soccer-cutie) and I have pushed up our (still tentative) plans to. No, he's not the sexy-beach-date-who-(kinda)stood-me-up. I still haven't figured out what to do about that whole thing. No, Ben is really nice. You know, he sent a text a few days after the kids birthday party to ask how it went and also one after the concert on Friday. Nice. Nice is good. We just can't seem to have time in common. He works alot, and I have very specific free days. When I'm available, he's out of town. When he's available, I'm busy with my kids, or working.

And then, we'll have a day we think will work (TUESDAY, this time) and we don't end up getting together for that first date. What do you think? Is it never going to happen?
Kinda like trying to make plans with John the Biter (aka John the Asshole). [Don't you just love epithets?]

He and I just cannot seem to not have opposite work schedules, but the time we do spend together is fun. He's moving to Pensacola for their kick ass Anthropology program (Hm funny, I seem to recall SOMEBODY ELSE who planned on going there... me!). I recently found out he'll be gone before I get back from Colombia, and I looked kinda sad, so he said, "Hey, there's lotsa time between now and then (meaning, when I leave)" but I don't feel like it. Don't worry, no more long distancing here, we've always been casually involved... with really good chemistry, anyways.

Also, I've got some great hot pink, purple, and black paisley satin to make a dress out of. I need something a little dressy that covers the massive tattoo project on my back and shoulders, for the trip.

I can't decide on a neckline. Argh. I don't sew using patterns (patterns are for sissy's), I prefer to make it up as I go, but I can't start if I don't have a solid goal. And so far, all I have are sketches that all look as good as each other to me. I do have a plan for a kind of quirky, innovative way of shaping-in the torso which will also be a major time saver. I can't wait to get to that part of the work.

Oh, and way more important than all this crap; Amy had her baby!!!
He is really something, mmm. What a cutie, in the photo text I got. Seriously, Baby Avery is going to take Cambridge BY STORM.

She had the natural birth she wanted, and I hear he is at the breast and doing well... 9 lbs 7 oz.
